On-Ground Football Skills & Fitness Contest:Mumbai
The On Ground Football Skills & Fitness Contest would be held on the 12th of September at the MSSA School Sports Centre, Fort.
It will be a panorama of events and a sports gathering which would be one of its kind:
71 schools all over South Mumbai will take part in the event. Girls and Boys from age 8 to 16 would be eligible for the event
A rigorous test of abilities of the sportsmen in terms of overall ground skills and their fitness levels.
Fun events like The Trick Show & Bend It Like Bhaichung would be a part of the electrifying arena.
The Football Skills Contest will test 4 Skills of a player:
Dribbling: To dodge the ball through obstacles.
Passing: Control of the ball while Passing, Receiving and Shooting.
Attack: Ability to break the defense and score a goal.
Defense: Ability to thwart an attacking move.
A battery of Fitness Tests will measure factors such as:
Endurance
Strength
Agility
Speed
Flexibility
Balance and Reflexes
How do students benefit from this?
� The students will get Sports and Fitness Report Card so that they become more aware of their strengths and weaknesses in terms of sports skills and fitness. The tests will be conducted on a quarterly basis. This will help them to show continuous improvement from their previous performance
� Students will get State and National Rankings based on their performance. Top players would be rewarded with prizes and certificates.
� An Online Sports Profile will make it convenient for them to analyze their performance and improve in sports as they do in studies.
� Continuous contact with sports will help the student become extremely fit, which works wonders in terms of Mental Fitness which will enhance their performance in studies. Thus, enabling them of an all round development
� Sports Networking will help them connect with their peer players, put up videos of their matches, share tips, get regular health tips.
How can students register for the event?
IndiaKhelo under the aegis of MSSA will send their representatives to the schools.
After a brief introduction from class to class the respective monitors assigned by the school will be given Registration forms (copy included in the envelope) and a receipt register.
Any student who wishes to register will have to pay an amount of Rs. 100 to the monitor, in return for which the student will receive a receipt slip which he/she should carry at the venue of the event in order to participate.

IndiaKhelo workshop in Delhi Public School International, Saket, New Delhi
IndiaKhelo in association with Young Minds conducted a workshop on Sports and Physical Fitness for students of DPS International, Saket on 20th July, 2009. Workshop was conducted by:
* Khyati Gulani
* Aman Prakash
* Vaibhav Tandon
Mr. Anand from Young Minds was also present. The first 2 sessions of 30 mins each were conducted for students of 2nd-3rd Grade and around 80 kids participated in the workshop. The session was divided into three parts
i) A Sports Quiz for all the students. The winners were awarded prizes
ii) A ppt titled “Know your Stars”, where they were shown some famous sportspersonalities of India and we shared some anecdotes about them with the kids. A motivational video on sports was also shown to kids
iii) Few volunteers among the kids were asked to do sit ups, the one doing the maximum got prize. Using this activity kids were taugh the importance of physical fitness in sports.
In all it was a very engaging and interactive activity and kids really enjoyed it. The teachers present also appreciated the efforts and asked us to come back soon for more such workkshops.
The 3rd session was conducted for students of 6th-8th grade for 30 minutes. We conducted a battery of fitness tests on 7 kids to measure their various physical fitness parameters:
* Agility������ * Flexibility����� * Strength������ * Power��� � * BMI����� * Speed
The kids were really excited to see their results and also compared their results with others. We also told them the importance of each parameter in different sports.
The Sports-in-charge Ms. Negi appreciated the idea. We would be handing out the Fitness Report Card for each student to the school.
In all it was an amazing experience and we hope to do similar activities in time to come.
